Having a garden does often present endless jobs to do, especially over the spring and summer when it feels like everything grows in front of your eyes, but it’s all worth it to have a beautiful outdoor space where you can spend time and entertain, as well as take advantage of the fresh air and soak up some much-needed vitamin D.
If you have any hedges around your property, you will know that their appearance can make all the difference between a beautiful, neat perimeter or something that’s so untidy and overgrown that the postman can barely get up the drive or pedestrians on the pavement have to walk in single file – not a great look. Well, don’t worry – this is one gardening job that doesn’t have to be a time consuming, cumbersome task, even if you have vast expanses of hedge all around your outdoor space. At least, not with an electric hedge trimmer anyway!
The speed and efficiency of electricity, the convenience of cordless
An electric hedge trimmer makes what would be a laborious manual job, with a potentially inconsistent outcome, into something you can zip through in a fraction of the time and achieve a high degree of neatness and precision. The MYLEK 4orce Lithium-ION Cordless Hedge Trimmer has the power and blade strength to tackle even the most unruly, overgrown hedge. Its lightweight design means you maintain control at all times, allowing you to achieve laser-like edges or sweeping curves, according to your preferences. Plus, it won’t weigh you down as you tackle a large expanse of foliage.
One of its greatest advantages is that it is cordless. This gives you the freedom to move around the whole garden without needing to trail power cables and it completely eradicates the possibility of one of the most common pitfalls of electric hedge trimming – cutting through the cord!
“But I don’t want to have to wait for a battery to charge up to start” you might say. There’s no worry about that with this model as the battery only takes an hour to fully charge.
“But I have a really large garden, what if one charge isn’t enough? I don’t want to have to stop for an hour while the battery recharges”. The battery does have a really good run time, but you can avoid this potential issue easily by buying an additional battery so you just swap over should the first run out. This battery is also compatible with the MYLEK 4orce Leaf Blower, which is a really handy bit of kit for clearing up all the trimmings from your hedge cutting endeavours. This bundle includes the hedge trimmer, leaf blower and two batteries so you are fully set up for keeping your greenery neat and tidy.

Obviously, with any power tool safety can be a concern, and we would always advise people to handle it with care, but there are a number of safety features with this trimmer that make it one of the safest on the market. Firstly, it has a triple lock safety switch, which requires you to hold 3 switches down to turn the machine on and two to operate it, so it’s impossible to turn it on by mistake.
The wraparound auxiliary handle means you can securely grip it from any angle and its lightweight design makes it easy to operate very accurately, both vastly reducing the risk of dropping it (though it would cut out anyway if you did) or of you losing control of it. They also help you to achieve high precision when trimming, giving you a superior finish.
Tips for using your hedge trimmer
Here are a few top tips that will allow you to use your electric trimmer accurately and safely:
- Wear goggles and gloves when operating. The goggles will protect your eyes from any flying leaves and twigs and gloves will allow you to brush trimmings from the surface of the hedge, as well as maintain a good grip on the unit
- Choose a cool day to attend to this task. Not only will it be more pleasant to work in, but it will also prevent the fragile, newly cut leaves and branches from becoming scorched by the sun
- Never operate a hedge trimmer above head height. This can cause you to overbalance. Always use a sturdy step ladder for tall hedges
- To get an even height, you can create a level by running a line of string or twine between 2 posts (standard garden bamboo sticks would work just fine). It can be hard to judge by eye, especially on long runs of the hedge so this is a really useful strategy
- After use, remove the battery and carefully wipe the blade clean of leaves and particles before storing it away (keep gloves on). Replace the blade cover before storing away.
