Colour has a profound effect on our mood and productivity, and while we can't choose the colour of everything in our lives when it comes to our home or office environment we can have a little bit more control. So, if you often find yourself becoming distracted or just feeling unmotivated how about considering changing up your office décor?  Consider painting your office walls yellow or purple—or maybe even red. And if none of those colours appeals to you, there are lots of other colours to choose from that are believed to affect our overall mood!

Energising Colours

If you want to create an office space or even just a room in your home that is full of energy and can inspire positivity, creativity and confidence – then choosing a warm colour such as reds, oranges or yellows could be the right design choice for you.

Red

Red is a strong and stimulating colour that can help you to focus on the task at hand. It's a colour of passion, energy and enthusiasm--a great choice if you want to create an atmosphere of urgency in your office.

There has long since been a debate around hunger and productivity – with some people believing they function better when they are hungry, this is due to the fact the brain is more alert in order to ‘hunt’ for food (A trait passed down by our ancestors) so if you are part of this group and you're looking for a colour that will make people feel hungry (and therefore more productive), red is probably your best bet. Many fast-food restaurants use this colour scheme because they know it works! However, if like many others you find your concentration struggles when hungry – perhaps consider a different colour.

Orange

Orange is a warm colour, which can help you to feel more energised. It's also associated with optimism and rejuvenation, so, it makes sense that if your office needs a boost of energy, orange may be the perfect choice for you.

Orange can also help to stimulate conversation while making people feel comfortable, so this makes it a great colour choice for meeting rooms – or even in areas such as dining rooms where you spend time socialising with friends!

Yellow

Yellow is a bright and cheerful colour that is often associated with the sun, which is a symbol of energy, warmth and happiness. Similar to orange, yellow is often believed to emote happiness, optimism, creativity and confidence as well as increase concentration and alertness in your workspace or office space.

Colours to Help You Relax

If a bright room isn’t quite to your taste and you would prefer something a little that will help you to feel relaxed, calm and restful in order to tackle your workload, then opting for cooler colour ranges may be the right choice for you.

Green

Green is a restful colour that promotes creativity, productivity and efficiency. This shade is associated with nature and therefore has calming effects on us humans, which makes it an excellent choice for those who are susceptible to feeling overwhelmed or stressed while working.

 Shades of green also make us feel more relaxed because they can be seen as an invitation to sit down and enjoy some time in the sun or under a tree, which are activities that require little effort but give great rewards in terms of relaxation and enjoyment.

Blue

Blue is a relaxing colour and can be used to help with concentration it has also been shown to increase both creativity and productivity, making it an ideal choice for offices where people need to think creatively in order to get through their workload.

Blue is also often associated with peace, tranquillity and security – so this again makes it an excellent choice for this who work in high-stress environments with lots of deadlines. After all, nothing can stump productivity quite like feeling overwhelmed by the job in front of you.

Purple

Purple may not be the first colour you think of while choosing a colour scheme for your home office. However much like green and blue, it can have a calming effect on the mind.

You may have heard that purple is the colour of creativity and imagination--and this is true! Purple has long been associated with royalty because it was so expensive to make that only king could afford it in large quantities! This is why it still carries its associations of luxury and wisdom so you can see why this may be a good choice for your office. However, be careful not to use too much as an overuse of the colour has been linked to feelings of frustration!

Benefits of Neutral Colours

Not to worry if you find the ideas of colour too daunting or if you just want to keep it simple, neutral colours can also be very beneficial to helping increase productivity due to the fact they are so versatile.

White or cream, for example, is a colour that can be used to create a neutral space. It's also great for adding light to your home or office which can make the space feel more open it will also help to reduce distractions – which in turn can have a calming effect on the mind. The great thing about white is that it also works as a blank canvas, this will allow for adding accessories and decorations in other colours. Try adding red accessories like lamps or picture frames around the office space to make them stand out from their surroundings without being too distracting – and changing the colour isn’t as difficult when the time comes! Black is another powerful colour as it can do more than just make things look dramatic--it can also make them look more formal, which is great if you want to create an atmosphere where people will feel comfortable working hard at their desks!
