Taking Care of Your Paint Sprayer
A paint sprayer is an essential tool to have around the house. If you’re good at DIY, it’ll make your work quick and easy. If you’re bad at DIY, it lets you add an even, professional lick of paint to almost anything in the house or in the garden! To get those results, however, you’ll need to make sure you look after your paint sprayer. Remember these golden rules and you’ll get an even coat of paint every time!
Always Clean Your Nozzle
After you’ve used your spray gun, you should clean the nozzle inside and out. There’ll be some paint residue along the inside of the nozzle which can combine with dust to clog up your nozzle quite quickly. These sticky lumps of paint can cause runs and paint splatter to appear on your work surface and – in severe cases – can damage the nozzle of your paint gun.
Wiping around the end of the nozzle is simple enough, but you’ll need a spray tip cleaning needle to get inside the pipe to clear the dried paint out. Our paint sprayers come with a free cleaning needle, so you don’t need to buy any extras!
Clean While It’s Still Wet
As with everything, you’ll find that it’s easier to clean out your spray gun while the paint is still wet. You should always clean your spray gun immediately after use – don’t be tempted to rest for 5 minutes then clean up! Cleaning it right away will save you a lot of potential headaches in future.
Clean Between Coats
While you’re waiting for your first coat of paint to dry, you can quickly rinse out the end of your nozzle with some clean water. Dry it thoroughly and put it back on. This will mean your second coat will go on evenly and without runs – just like the first!
Don’t Leave it Outside
As dust mixes with paint so easily, you should try and keep your paint sprayer as dust-free as possible. This means you should never leave it outside, even if the weather is good! You should also be wary of leaving it inside a storage shed or garage unless you keep these areas in top condition. Our paint sprayers come with a washable air filter to catch dust which reduces clogging and dripping which will solve this problem for you, but it’s still always a good idea to store your spray gun away properly.
Pre-Rinse with Water Before You Clean with Solvent
You should regularly clean your spray gun with some solvent to make sure it always works like it’s brand new! However, you should always make sure you rinse your system with water before you start using solvents. No matter what solvent you use, it will cause some of the paint to become gloopy and sticky, which can be a nightmare to clean out properly. By flushing your spray gun out with water first, you remove as much paint as possible from the system – this makes your solvent deep clean much more effective.
