After hibernating for the winter, now that the evenings are beginning to become a little lighter and the bulbs are just starting to peek through the soil, it’s no wonder our minds turn to spring and spending more time out in the garden.
For most of us, this will mean doing a little tidying up: pulling the weeds out, clearing leaves and the debris of winter, and bringing the garden furniture back out again. It may also be a great time for a project to really create a feature of our garden and help us enjoy it over the summer months.
Here are a few ideas for spring garden projects and some useful tools for doing them.
Jazz up your fence panels
Fencing is actually the main feature of most gardens but one that often doesn’t get much attention. Instead of regarding it as just a functional necessity, why not make a feature of it and really incorporate it into your garden design? A splash of colour on fence panelling can look amazing and provide the perfect framing for your outside space. A cool blue or even a hot pink can offer a stunning backdrop to the natural tones of trees and bushes and create a joyful space to enjoy the sunshine. Not feeling the hot pink? A fresh coat of something more neutral will refresh any tired old panels and get them looking like new again.
Useful tools: get the brushes out by all means but this Mylek Paint Sprayer Kit will make light work of your fence panels, garden furniture or even walls.
Spruce up your furniture
Garden furniture isn’t cheap so it makes sense to get as much life out of yours as you can. Are your wooden chairs and tables looking a bit sorry and stained after a few years in the elements? Don’t discard, renovate! Give them a good sand down to get rid of old varnish and damage caused by being outside and then you can get creative! Paint them bright colours (the paint sprayer mentioned above would be great for this) or a new coat of varnish and they’ll look like a different piece of furniture.
Useful tools: save your hands and your time and forget about sandpaper, this Mylek Multi-Tool sander will have that furniture stripped back in no time so you can save your efforts for the creative process!

Buy NowBuild something
Why not set yourself a challenge this year by creating something for the garden yourself? The project you choose will depend on your skills and your confidence but you can pretty much learn how to build anything on YouTube and imagine the pride of making something with your own fair hands rather than just buying it. Entry-level creations could include a box planter or a bird table whereas more ambitious projects could be a bench or even a shed or summer house.
Useful tools: a cordless drill is an invaluable piece of kit for constructing anything in the garden. Our Compakt Fast Charge drill is a great option.
Sit back and appreciate your handiwork
Imagine the satisfaction of renovating or building something yourself that you can enjoy all summer long. Get to work now and you can spend the rest of the season sitting back with a G&T appreciating your efforts!
